Canada Impact+ Research Chairs (Impact+)

The program is a one-time initiative designed to support institutions in attracting world-leading researchers whose work addresses critical national and global challenges. As communicated in the linked memo, Ó£ÌÒÊÓÆµ invites world-leading researchers to apply for one of several prestigious opportunities.

The program emphasizes both research excellence and tangible impact. Impact+ Chairs will receive long-term funding and institutional support to build and maintain exceptional research teams, collaborate with partners across sectors and borders, and advance ambitious and Transformative projects in the following strategic priority areas:

  • Advanced Digital Technologies (including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum and Cybersecurity)
  • Health, including Biotechnology
  • Clean Technology and Resource Value Chains
  • Environment, Climate Resilience and the Arctic
  • Food and Water Security
  • Democratic and Community Resilience
  • Defence and Dual-Use Technologies

Impact+ chairholders are expected to drive the translation of discoveries into applications, commercialization and social and economic benefits for Canada and the world, while also developing the next generation of highly qualified personnel.

The Impact+ program provides opportunities for internationally renowned scholars and scientists in areas of strategic importance to Canada. Only candidates who are internationally based (both working and residing outside of Canada) at the time of the intake's application deadline are eligible to apply.

In accordance with Ó£ÌÒÊÓÆµ faculty hiring requirements, successful candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent (e.g., JSD, MD, DDS, with relevant professional designation or licensure) in a discipline appropriate to the field of research, be engaged in a program of research, and have a demonstrated record of excellence in scholarly research and teaching.

Applicants are requested to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) prior to initiating the application process. Please ensure your EOI is submitted by the deadline of March 2nd, 2026. EOIs can be accessed and completed . Upon receipt of the EOI, a Program Officer will work with you to provide further guidance on completing your application.
